Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
The commission responsible for inspecting the arms depositories of the
Provisional Irish Republican Army has declared that the IRA is in full
compliance with the Good Friday Agreement. The arms are not in use and
have not been in use and are incapable of being used.
This does not satisfy the Orange-draped sectarian who can hardly wait
to get his feet on the pavement of Catholic neighborhoods in order to vaunt
his alleged colonial and sectarian superiority.
Just what would satisfy Mr. Trimble? Obviously, nothing but the unconditional
surrender of the IRA would satisfy him so that the merry old days of kicking
Catholics around in British-occupied Ireland could continue.
Mr. Trimble should realize that this is not going to happen. It is time
for him to resign his ministership in order that the peace process can
go forward.
Abolition of the RUC is a must. A new and integrated police constabulary
must be established — to cite just one of the reforms needed to guarantee
equality between the people of the northern six counties.
Where is George Mitchell now that we need him to explain the facts of
life in British-occupied Ireland to Mr. Trimble?
