Irish-born actor Pierce Brosnan (right) and Steve Brecher, brand strategy manager for Guinness UDV, beamed during the GQ "Men of the Year" ceremony at the Beacon Theatre in New York. Guinness sponsored the event with its Guinness and Bass brands, introducing a new Guinness draught in a bottle at the pre- and post-event parties. The awards were hosted by comic Dennis Miller, honoring male film, sports and fashion personalities.

Let's call ,em Maloney on the left and Finnegan on the right, with Jane Healy Gleeson in the middle. Gleeson, an acupuncture student at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Racine, Wis., took time out from classes to pose with two mannikens used to demonstrate acupuncture points. Gleeson grew up on Chicago's northwest side. She now lives in Bayside, Wis.

More than 200 persons, including a contingent of irish, participated in the annual United Nations Day Program sponsored by Illinois Gov. George H. Ryan. The group, which represented 30 nations, visited Chicago's James R. Thompson Center in late November. from left to right (front row) were Brittney Hennigan and Linda Westergreen-Muhr (Swedish), Ceran Koinan (Turkish), Hilda Williams and dawn Silk (Native American), Sajida Kahn and Saba Dean (Pakistani). In thge second riow (left to right) were Pat Michalski, assistant to the governor for ethnic affairs; Brian Endless, president of the United Nations Association of Greater Chicago; G.J. Cunning, Conor O'Keefe and Nora McConville (Irish); Myla Sansano, governor's office intern; and Mary Beth Brennan, program manager, UNICEF Chicago Chapter.
